Over the last few months, I have attended different graduations and celebrations. During most of the events, the master of ceremonies, for various reasons, requests the guests to hold all the applause until the end. Of course, no one really listens and cheers for their loved ones, regardless.
Some people received the bells and whistles, while others had the bare minimum. It may have been wrong of me to assume, but some students didn't have anyone there to support them. It was sobering to think some students were there alone. I believe everyone deserves to have someone in the corner. We all require support and even crave it, especially during tough times.
Next time you attend a function, clap for everyone. Not just for the people you know but strangers too. Let's be intentional and show our support. You may never know; our applause may be the only one they receive.
