The other day, my husband had to do another MRI. His wrist and hand have been very uncomfortable ever since the car accident back in April, so he was advised to do some extra tests. What was supposed to be easy and quick was more than two hours. Partly because one exam was for the wrist, and had to do another for the hand. We assumed incorrectly that it would be a two-for-one kind of deal, one scan for both areas. If you have never had an MRI, you have to be absolutely motionless; well, my husband wasn't. He said he may have had the slightest movement, and the technician would come over the intercom and tell him he couldn't adjust his position; regardless of how uncomfortable it was, he had to endure it. If he didn't, he would have to start all over. The technician would encourage him and even give him a countdown where he would tell my husband that he had 10, five, and three minutes left; however, my husband said it felt like it was hours the whole time and couldn't wait until it was over. With the loud pounding noises while the images were being taken, he said he left the clinic with a massive headache and a sore arm due to the awkward positioning of the exams. Still, he was grateful it was over, hoped never to do it again, and anticipated strong results.
My husband's experience reminded me of the tests we go through in our Christian walk. How often does God put us through uncomfortable and painful tests that seem to take forever but we must endure? God, like the technician in the MRI room, is there with us, knowing the test timeline and what's happening, encouraging us, and instructing us to hang on. Like the MRI scan, the tests will show what's wrong and what needs to be corrected. And He will show us how if we remain still.
No testing has overtaken you that is not common to everyone. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tested beyond your strength, but with the testing he will also provide the way out so that you may be able to endure it. ~1 Corinthians 10:13
Be still, and know that I am God; ~Psalm 46:10 (NIV)
Let’s obey and go through God’s MRI. Remain still, endure the suffering of the test, and come out on the other side renewed. Sometimes, we complain and try to push the fast forward button, but when we do, we unfortunately have to press the opposite, the painful rewind button, and have to be in the test longer. Since He knows you and how long you will need to be in it, trust His process. Don't rush what God is trying to do now in this season.
