Small Beginnings

Sometimes, when I hear about the mighty moves of God happening all over the world, I find myself wrestling with a mix of emotions. Stories of revival sweeping through college campuses, stadiums overflowing with people experiencing miraculous healings, and entire cities awakening to live for Christ fill me with awe and excitement. I genuinely rejoice in these incredible testimonies. Yet, in the quiet moments, I can’t help but reflect on my own journey and wonder if I’m doing enough. Despite knowing that comparison isn’t healthy, it can be hard to silence the inner voice that whispers, "Is what I’m doing really making a difference?" Sometimes, this leads to feelings of guilt, as if my efforts for the kingdom of God fall short compared to the grand stories I hear.
But then, in God’s perfect timing, I was given a glimpse into the true impact of my seemingly ordinary actions. Recently, after resigning from my position and sharing the news with others, I began receiving heartfelt messages from people expressing their appreciation for the role I played in their lives. What struck me most was that many of these individuals weren’t the ones I had intentionally set out to help or minister to—they were people I hadn’t even realized I’d touched. Their words revealed ways I had influenced and encouraged them, and I was both surprised and deeply humbled by their gratitude.
Through these unexpected affirmations, God gently reminded me that while He rejoices in the sweeping transformations that make headlines, He is equally present in the quiet, one-on-one moments that often go unnoticed. Those simple, authentic connections—a listening ear, a word of encouragement, a prayer—matter deeply to Him. We shouldn’t overlook or minimize the power of small beginnings, because God delights in working through them.
So, if you ever wonder whether your actions matter, let me reassure you: you are making an impact, even if it feels small in the moment. To someone else, your words of encouragement might be the lifeline they desperately needed. Your daily kindness, your willingness to listen, and your faithfulness in sharing hope can truly shift mindsets and even change the course of someone’s day—or life.
God specializes in transforming the ordinary moments of our lives into something extraordinary. It’s not always about performing grand gestures or making headlines. Sometimes, it’s in the simplest of ways that can be the catalyst for change. You don’t need to force yourself into the spotlight or chase remarkable accomplishments—often, it can be in the quiet, unseen acts of faithfulness that God weaves His greatest miracles. Trust that even your smallest acts can send ripples of hope and healing far beyond what you may ever realize.
Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand. ~Zechariah 4:10 (NLT)
