Wait and See

"You will not believe this! I can't find my wedding ring! I placed it in the same spot as I always do, and now I can't find it!" Those were the horrible statements my good friend exclaimed through tears and exasperation. She was distressed to a new level as she searched her bathroom high and low, not once or twice but five times. My stressed out friend pulled out her husband's tool kit and even removed the sink's pipe in case the ring fell through the drain. After apprehensively telling her husband, her husband called a plumber and asked him to drill past the initial pipe to see if it went through. To no avail, no ring, just a big fat bill and a big hole in her bathroom wall.

My girlfriend, in a state of disbelief, didn't know what else to do.  Her ring, which was in her husband's family line for generations, was lost. She felt absolutely horrible and hopeless. I listened with sympathy and tried to suggest other places it could be hiding. I then asked her if she had prayed about it. She responded with doubt, expressing her disbelief that prayer could bring back the ring. I asked her if she believed in miracles.  She paused with silence, which was the perfect time for me to ask if she believed in the miraculous stories of the Bible, to which she quickly responded, yes.  So I promptly asked why she didn't think God could perform one for her.  He is the same God as in Biblical times and current times.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. ~Hebrews 13:8 (ESV)

She sheepishly said God has more significant issues to handle now.  Her ring is a minute problem compared to the world's problems.  I agreed, but I also told her God cares for her situation too and should not wait to ask the Lord for His help. She has three kids similar in age to mine, so I asked her if all three of her kids needed help, would she not help two because she was helping one? She vehemently said no.  She would do whatever it took to rescue all three. And so I told her that our Father God has the same response but even better.  He wouldn't ignore her problem because He is busy helping all of His other children.

With her faith waning, she reluctantly prayed with me.  After we prayed, I challenged her to wait and see. Grow her quarter-sized mustard seed of belief that she will have her ring back.  I prayed separately and asked the Lord to return the ring.  I had confidence in God for my friend and believed she would have her ring again; somehow and someway, she would have it.

Two days after our chat, she frantically face-timed me, again crying, but this time tears of joy. The ring reappeared out of nowhere. She was about to take a bath when she noticed something glistening from the corner of her eye.   The heirloom was in the basket of clean towels positioned next to her bathtub.  She said she took those towels out and turned the basket upside down several times, but the ring wasn't there before.  There is absolutely no way the ring could be right on top, wedged between two towels.  She asked her kids if they were pranking her, and they said they would be too scared to do that to her. With tears streaming down her face and in complete amazement at what God did for her, my friend said she was sorry.   I told her not to apologize to me; she wasn't doubting me but God. God miraculously turned it back up when she believed she had lost her prized possession forever.  My friend did everything she could and came up empty-handed. She admitted she should've prayed first and gone to Him first.

My friend now firmly believes in miracles and understands that she is a top priority to God. She had to repent, realizing she had mistakenly thought she didn't matter.  She is now reassured that our God is a BIG God, and He not only cares for the major world problems but also our minor ones too, all at the same time.

I'm praying the same prayer for those impacted by the hurricane and asking the Lord to supernaturally bring forth the possessions and whatever else of importance that was lost and destroyed by the storm. If Father God can do it for my friend, He can do it again for His other children.
