I was scrolling through Instagram the other day, and a mom posted how her toddler son comments to her every morning, "Wanna know what I love about myself?" She went on to say that her son would rattle off, without hesitation, some pretty awesome attributes about himself. Some were obvious, and a few she was even surprised about. Most days, he repeated the same ones, and then other days, her son would express something new.
When I read the mom's blurb under the photo of her adorable blue-eyed son, I quickly thought about how we should ALL do the same. Not to the extent of being a narcissist, but to the point where we are confident of who we are and unafraid to share it. To remind ourselves of the virtues God has blessed us with. To speak them out loud and often enough that we're encouraging ourselves all the time. We must learn to be our own "modern-day Barnabas," like this young boy. He didn't need approval or acceptance from anyone. He confidently expressed what he loved about himself to anyone willing to listen. It's not about the likes and dislikes on social media platforms or what people think; it's about what you believe about yourself.
Let's follow this toddler's example. Take a minute or two and consider what you love about yourself. Don't be shy, but be bold and create a long list. Keep it close to add to it when something comes to mind. Invite the Holy Spirit and ask what He thinks of you. We know that God only creates masterpieces. ☺
"The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these." ~Mark 12:31 (NIV)
Honestly, if you don't know how to love yourself, how can you adequately love your neighbor?
